About The Position

Avigilon Alta quality assurance group is looking for a Principal Hardware Quality Engineer to help facility and drive our product quality through design, development, and deployment. The individual will drive quality assurance activities including but not limited to: system level test planning and execution, design and development quality metrics. This position requires constant cross team communication and heavy cooperation with customer support, software, and hardware development groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in an Engineering discipline
  • 10+ year background in hardware quality assurance, testing in both white and black box hardware, testing both NPI and sustaining hardware changes.
  • Experience working on quality control processes for overseas manufacturing and domestic RMAs, creating structure and change management for continuous improvement
  • 7+ year background in IoT and/or video based hardware testing practices
  • Strong ability to debug, root cause failures, and turn into actionable solutions
  • Familiarity with JIRA, and TestRail
  • Experience creating processes and developing feedback to improve product quality
  • Can operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Highly organized, can juggle multiple competing priorities and tasks
  • A strong communicator (verbal, written and interpersonal)
  • Advance working knowledge of Google Spreadsheets, Excel, or Tableau
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Help establish and maintain the company's hardware quality metrics, standards, and specifications for IoT and video products. This includes defining acceptable failure rates, cosmetic standards, and performance benchmarks.
  • Help create a long-term plan for quality improvements, including the adoption of new testing technologies, process enhancements, and quality systems.
  • Proactively identifying potential quality risks in new product designs, components, and manufacturing processes and developing mitigation plans.
  • Implementing, managing, and continuously improving the QMS (e.g., ISO 9001). This includes documenting all quality-related procedures, from component inspection to final product testing.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and reporting on quality data from various sources (factory yields, field returns, customer feedback). They use statistical process control (SPC) and other data analysis techniques to drive decisions and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to leadership.
  • Managing quality for products in the field, including leading failure analysis (FA) on customer returns (RMAs) and managing any component changes or obsolescence issues.
  • Overseeing the development and execution of test plans to validate product performance and reliability. This includes environmental testing (temperature, humidity), mechanical stress testing (drop, vibration), and characterization of critical components like camera sensors and wireless modules.
  • Acting as the primary quality interface with contract manufacturers. This involves regular factory audits, performance reviews, and collaboration on process control and yield improvement initiatives.
