As a Principal Experience Designer at Venmo, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how millions of users manage their money and leverage financial products on Venmo. We are seeking a visionary leader with an unwavering commitment to user-centered design. The Venmo Experience Design team works across all end-to-end experiences for Venmo consumers globally and works closely with product and engineering partners to inform and drive the strategy and roadmap. In this role you will be playing a key role in our CFS (Consumer Financial Services) experiences, working with other leaders and cross-functional team members to build and deliver the best possible experiences across all aspects of the CFS (Consumer Financial Services) team. As a Principal Experience Designer at Venmo, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how millions of users manage their money and leverage financial products on Venmo. We are seeking a visionary leader with an unwavering commitment to user-centered design. This passion translates into flawless execution, leveraging a deep understanding of design patterns to build trust and security within our financial products. They will cultivate a visually sophisticated brand experience that resonates with our target audience, all while influencing stakeholders to champion their design vision. This Principal Designer will be on the Consumer Financial Services (CFS) design team, which is responsible for Venmo's money management features, including Venmo Balance, deposits, automated money tools, Crypto, Teen accounts, and financial products like the Venmo Debit and Credit Cards. We work adjacent to the Core Experiences and Commerce teams, collaborating with researchers and content designers within Venmo’s XD organization to deliver innovative and user-friendly financial solutions. The CFS team shapes Venmo’s financial ecosystem, delivering visually sophisticated experiences that resonate with our users. You'll leverage, and create new design patterns, advocate for best practices, and influence stakeholders to champion your vision—all while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in digital finance.

Requirements

  • 10+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years in UX role, bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in the study of user experience, design, research or related fields or equivalent professional experience
  • Thorough command of the UX lifecycle with deep, direct experience in all skill areas and tools, including facilitation of workshops or other collaboration techniques to drive momentum and credibility within the organization
  • Complete UX skillset, to deliver excellence across products and platforms, mobile apps, financial services expertise an advantage
  • Experience leading delivery, through feedback, design critique, presentation to program sponsors, planning and coordinating with partners where needed
  • Familiarity and experience with standard design and prototyping tools, such as Figma, Framer, and Miro
  • High degree of craft, taste, and product intuition, with a keen eye towards future trends, emerging technology, and shifting customer expectations
  • Demonstrate exceptional visual craft with mastery of typography, color theory, composition, and visual hierarchy to create polished, pixel-perfect designs that elevate user experiences
  • Experience managing multiple projects and working through ambiguity.
  • Ability to work cross-team and synthesize feedback from multiple teams/owners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and a relentless attention to detail.
  • Compelling storyteller who can educate as well as entertain.

  • Experience in fintech or financial products is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Establish overall business or technical strategy for user experience initiatives.
  • Negotiate with and influence decision-making reaching the senior executive level
  • Identify and resolve unique situations of substantial significance in user interface or interaction design
  • Allocate resources, responsibly and apply creativity to enhancing user and customer experiences across digital and physical products and services
  • Lead the development of user experience strategies that resonate with target audiences.
  • Support and mentor less-experienced roles to provide an example of innovation, excellence, and day-to-day learning
  • Design leadership - drive best practices in process and methodology and deliver against business and customer needs
  • Guide UX efforts across teams, including strategy, planning, working with cross-functional partners to remove blockers and presenting effectively to senior staff and stakeholders
  • Leverage and extend the use of design system, style guides, patterns and assets in the creation of UX deliverables
  • Contribute to the wider UX community, mentoring others, leveraging your strengths to help others grow
  • Ensure that all the organization’s output/visuals are consistent with the overall brand and strategic commitments.
  • Apply a customer-focused, iterative design process.
  • Make design decisions based on research and insights, as well as advocate for continuous learning and inclusive design best practices.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, engineering, content design, and user research to create and deliver best-in-class products and services using a customer-focused, iterative design process.
