Rockwell Collins Inc. d/b/a Collins Aerospace has an opening for a Principal Engineer, Systems Engineering in Cedar Rapids, IA. Up to 5% national travel to customer sites. What YOU will do Apply scientific principles to innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, sub-systems, machines, tools, and systems to ensure compliance to specifications, requirements, and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions. Ensure novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools. Perform analysis at all levels of the total system product including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Consider and evaluate alternatives accounting for similar metrics. Manage configuration process, performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Perform architectural exploration. Decompose customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements, and generates verification criteria and plans for the requirements.

Requirements

  • Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field and at least 8 years of progressive experience as a Systems Engineer or related role.
  • In the alternative, at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field and at least 5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer or related role.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience designing and developing safety-critical, real-time, embedded avionics systems that are compliant with ARP-4754, RTCA DO-178, DO-160 and/or DO-254, using industry standard communication bus architectures (ARINC 429, ARINC 664, ARINC 818) and avionics architectural standards (ARINC 661, ARINC 653).
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience working with external customers to define system-level operational scenarios, originating requirements, interface specifications and validation tests.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience with all phases of the system development lifecycle including requirements development, defining interface specification, system design, integration, verification, and validation testing.
  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience providing technical direction to a team of systems engineers, delegating tasks, overseeing and reviewing their work.
  • Non-US Person - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company’s immigration sponsorship now or in the future. The company will not offer immigration sponsorship for this position. The company will not seek an export authorization for this role.
