About The Position

The purpose of this job is to serve as the administrator of the school, exercising leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student, the professional development of each staff member, and the overall performance of the school. This role involves supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff, processing employee concerns, and managing work schedules. The Principal is responsible for ensuring school safety and security, including supporting arrival and dismissal, monitoring visitors, and addressing disciplinary issues. Key responsibilities include providing instructional leadership to faculty and staff to meet students' needs, ensuring a high priority on student academic learning, and aligning school objectives with District vision and goals. The Principal monitors student achievement, identifies annual program objectives, and involves teachers, students, parents, and the community in school improvement efforts. Additionally, the role requires establishing daily operational procedures, maintaining accurate records, developing internal communication plans, managing fiscal procedures, and communicating school programs and goals to the community while maintaining high standards of student conduct.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in School Administration and Supervision and required licensure through the VDOE.
  • Five (5) years of successful teaching or administrative experience at the appropriate grade level.
  • Teacher and Principal Licenses.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Conducts tasks related to safety and security including but not limited to supporting arrival and dismissal, monitoring visitors in the building and addressing disciplinary issues for inappropriate behaviors.
  • Provides Instructional Leadership to faculty and staff to ensure implementation of instruction, remediation and enrichment to meet students' needs.
  • Ensures that the school and staff place a high priority on serving students, including taking responsibility for all students’ academic learning.
  • Ensures that the District’s vision, mission, shared beliefs, and goals are conceptualized and aligned at the school level and provide leadership to ensure that supporting procedures and practices are implemented at the school.
  • Ensures that the school’s instructional objectives, programs, and practices are aligned with the educational philosophy adopted by the District and that they are carried out in such a way to serve all students and their academic progress.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and evaluates the school’s student achievement results.
  • Identifies and monitors the annual objectives for the instructional and extra-curricular programs of the school, while taking appropriate steps to develop programs that sustain progress.
  • Involves teachers, students, parents, and other parts of the school community on a regular basis in efforts to improve the school program.
  • Follows District policies, administrative rules and regulations, as well as State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Establishes, implements, and evaluates procedures used to carry out the daily operations of the school.
  • Ensures that school and student records are accurately maintained and safeguarded.
  • Develops an effective internal communication plan to keep staff members involved and informed about the school and related issues that affect them.
  • Follows approved fiscal procedures to safeguard all funds that may be received or disbursed by the school, as well as complies with all purchasing, auditing, and budgeting requirements.
  • Communicates the school’s programs and goals to the community, maintains positive channels of communication with community members, and develops ways for community members to be involved in the attainment of the school’s goals.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according to the due process rights of students.
  • Performs related work as required.
