Job Summary: As the Principal Director, Data, this role will be a strategic leader responsible for overseeing Envestnet's data strategy, governance, and analytics capabilities. Reporting directly to the Head of Financial Systems, you will drive the development and execution of a comprehensive data vision to support Envestnet's financial systems, enhance decision-making, and deliver actionable insights to stakeholders across the organization. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic vision, and leadership to ensure data is leveraged as a critical asset for business growth and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in data management, analytics, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven track record in the financial services or wealth management industry, with familiarity in financial systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing data teams in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
  • Deep expertise in data architecture, data modeling, ETL processes, and cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Oracle, Snowflake, AWS).
  • Proficiency in analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python).
  • Knowledge of AI/ML frameworks and their application in financial services
  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, including C-suite executives.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with a focus on driving business outcomes.
  • Certifications in data management, cloud platforms, or related areas (e.g., CDMP, AWS Certified Big Data, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer).
  • Strategic vision with a hands-on approach to execution.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity in complex, cross-functional projects.
  • Strong commitment to fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and innovation.
  • Deep understanding of the wealth management industry and its data needs.

Responsibilities

  • Data Strategy & Vision: Develop and implement a forward-thinking data strategy aligned with Envestnet's business objectives, ensuring data supports financial systems, client solutions, and operational efficiency.
  • Data Governance & Quality: Establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and processes to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, SEC regulations).
  • Data Architecture & Infrastructure: Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of scalable data architectures, including data warehouses, lakes, and pipelines, to support Envestnet's financial systems and analytics needs.
  • Analytics & Insights: Lead the development of advanced analytics, machine learning models, and reporting tools to provide actionable insights for financial advisors, internal teams, and leadership.
  • Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing data team, including data scientists, engineers, and analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with technology, product, finance, and compliance teams to integrate data solutions into Envestnet's financial systems and client-facing platforms.
  • Innovation & Technology Adoption: Stay ahead of industry trends, evaluating and implementing cutting-edge data technologies (e.g., AI, cloud-based analytics, real-time processing) to maintain Envestnet's competitive edge.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a trusted advisor to the Head of Financial Systems and other senior leaders, translating complex data concepts into business value and strategic recommendations.
  • Performance Metrics: Define and track KPIs to measure the success of data initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and client outcomes.
  • Adherence to and application of Envestnet legal, compliance, risk, business continuity and administrative policy within the role and department(s) including the timely completion of training & awareness, affirmations and testing as requested.
  • As part of the responsibilities for this role, you will understand and readily support Envestnet's established corporate business practices, policies, internal controls and procedures designed to create value or minimize risk.
