About The Position

Vera House, Inc. is a human service agency that provides unconditional care for individuals and families through comprehensive domestic and sexual violence prevention and intervention services. Vera House mission is to prevent, respond to and partner to end domestic and sexual violence and other forms of abuse. In this role, the Prevention Educator will provide prevention education and program planning for youth and adults in the community. They will be responsible to generate, schedule, facilitate and provide presentations on domestic/dating violence, sexual assault/abuse and elder abuse including community and professional presentations. This position will also assist on an as needed basis with other department related projects including college campuses and K-12 education, and engaging men and boys, along with direct client services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Public Health or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of relative work experience.
  • Strong training and facilitation skills and ability to work independently.
  • Prompt response to crisis as well as thorough and consistent follow up with victims/clients and delivery systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Thorough knowledge of domestic and sexual violence including elder abuse.
  • Knowledge of community-based service systems and knowledge of the criminal and civil justice systems.
  • Ability to work with, as well as maintain positive working relationships with community partners.
  • Adaptability to demanding situations and working well under pressure.
  • Capability to develop a positive, compassionate rapport with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other violent trauma.
  • Skill to provide trauma informed services and knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a crisis orientated setting with diverse individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate prevention programs for youth and adults.
  • Help maintain the chat line, and hotline as needed.
  • Develop, update, and revise the program curricula and agency materials, including program assessment tools, and surveys as necessary.
  • Serve as a liaison and build positive working relationships with community members and partnering agencies.
  • Collect, analyze, and report program outputs and outcome data to funding sources.
  • Maintain database consistent with Vera House practices.
  • Adhere to all Vera House policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Ensure a warm and welcoming environment for all visitors.
  • Manage difficult and/or emotional client situations and respond promptly to client needs.
  • Ensure that all services are maintained in accordance with the Agency’s mission and goals.
  • Engage community members, including men and boys, to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault and other forms of abuse by providing and coordinating educational outreach.
  • Provide resources to clients that disclose abuse during presentations or at community events.
  • Represent the Agency to the community and collaborate with community members through tabling events to ensure the implementation and/or maintenance of the Agency’s program services, and include crime victim compensation information.
