About The Position

As a Trauma RN Injury Prevention/Educator, you will be instrumental in reducing injury morbidity and mortality by developing and delivering expert-led prevention programs and education to the community. Your daily work will involve creating and implementing evidence-based injury prevention initiatives, providing educational outreach to diverse populations, and collaborating with community partners. You will leverage your trauma nursing background to identify key risk factors and translate them into actionable safety strategies. To excel in this role requires a strong trauma nursing background, outstanding communication and teaching abilities, meticulous attention to epidemiological data, and the passion to critically assess injury trends to drive effective prevention efforts.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years experience in Emergency/ Trauma Critical/ Care required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing with BSN or completion within a year of hire.
  • Licensure in the State of California as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR)
  • TNCC within 6 months of hire
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Strong verbal, written and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • High comfort level with public speaking.
  • Basic graphic design principles and desktop publishing techniques.
  • Capable of effectively handling multiple priorities.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with diverse groups and teams.
  • Experience with performance improvement, quality improvement.
  • Experience with nursing research.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred BSN or MSN with public health experience or a related field.
  • CEN, ENPC, PALS and ACLS preferred.
  • Experience with education to broad populations including physicians and nursing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements trauma injury prevention program in conjunction with Trauma Department leadership and in accordance with American College of Surgeons Trauma verification guidelines as well as state regulatory rules.
  • Serves as a resource to nursing staff, EMS, and other external entities related to injury prevention and education.
  • Independently creates, manages and administers community outreach and injury prevention programs for targeted populations based on injury data.
  • Focuses department resources on evidence-based programs.
  • Works collaboratively with community partners to achieve injury prevention objectives and support their prevention efforts.
  • Ability to represent the trauma program with the media.
  • Serves as a spokesperson for Mercy Medical Center Redding's trauma and injury prevention programs.
  • Applies for and administers grant funding and manages the grants within guidelines, in coordination with Mercy Foundation North.
