About The Position

The Prevention Educator is responsible for supporting with enrollment, facilitation, and follow up of Domestic Violence Prevention curriculum in English and Spanish. They will educate and build trust among parents, students, professionals working in the field, and the greater community. The Prevention Educator will facilitate workshops in schools around psycho-education topics from a pre-programmed curriculum on parenting, IPV prevention, conflict resolution and sexual education. The Prevention Educator will also facilitate tailored one-on-one education services for families and community members using the set curriculum topics. The Prevention Educator will assist with implementing family-led activities, such as in person events and workshops, and coordinate with clients to drop off or pick up program resources. The Prevention Educator will facilitate trainings for professionals on domestic violence prevention and intervention strategies at local community organizations and medical centers. They will aid the Manager with administrative aspects of the program. The position is currently hybrid, this position requires two days in the office or in the field.   This position reports to the Manager of Counseling and Prevention Services. This is a Hybrid position. The position will provide in-person school-based facilitation and optional virtual facilitation for one-time workshops or community workshops with 2 school-based or in-office days per week. Requirements

  • Basic understanding of Congreso’s mission, values, DEI&B vision, Mission2Impact, Primary Client Model, programs, and services.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the community needs and demographics.
  • Ability to understand, acknowledge, and assess client needs to provide a timely, trauma informed approach in service.
  • Ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information and understanding for issues such as confidentiality, domestic abuse, child abuse, and mandated reporter requirements.
  • Adheres to all Congreso, departmental, programmatic, and security policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Attends all Congreso trainings and in-services as required, including relevant professional groups to maintain professional, requisite knowledge and licensure.
  • Attends, participates, and facilitates relevant staff meetings to promote communication and execution of goals.
  • Ability to effectively use standard office equipment, including a variety of common software programs such as Office365, UNIDAD, and other customized databases.
  • Follows through on assignments, works in a timely manner, within established deadlines, and completes special projects specific to the function of the department, as needed or as directed by supervisor.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups, in a compassionate, courteous, and respectful manner that fosters an inclusive environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including effective and respectful communication with individuals and groups.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) written and verbal skills required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred. Associate’s degrees may be considered with at least two years of facilitation or education experience.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required (Word & Excel)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish required.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in group facilitation; preference for the experience to be specific to youth.
  • Knowledge of and proficient on the Latino culture and community of Philadelphia.
  • Knowledge of the domestic violence issues and dynamics related to the Latino community.
  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma on children and families.
  • 45-hour Domestic Violence training certificate from an approved PCADV training program is required and may be completed post hire.
  • Mandated Reporter training certificate required and may be completed post hire.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Represents Congreso’s mission, values, and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and will be an ambassador of our work.
  • Facilitates school-based parenting workshops and support groups for parents on a flexible schedule (including at most 2 evening days and possibly weekend hours) in Spanish and English, at schools and in the community.
  • Responsible for coordinating and implementing family-led initiatives and activities designed to welcome, engage, empower, and support families.
  • Responsible for supervising and ensuring safety of children engaged in childcare activities, as well as of older children and adolescents accompanying parents attending the Programs.
  • Facilitates professional development trainings to healthcare professionals and other staff at local organizations to increase their knowledge of domestic violence, increase their capacity to screen clients, and strengthen their ability to do light safety planning with survivors.
  • Conducts resource drop offs with program participants as needed and assigned by supervisor.
  • Sustains internal and external partnerships to boost the existing parenting curriculum with expert guest speakers. Networks with area organizations, schools, hospitals, daycare centers, clinics, etc. to identify and connect clients to appropriate community resources
  • Maintains proper documentation of client records and case files according to goal plan, agency and funding guidelines.
  • Participates in community and tabling events.
