The Quonset Point Test department (972) is hiring Preventive Maintenance (PM) Mechanics, reporting to the Supervisor of PM. These mechanics perform both electrical and mechanical maintenance on ship's components in accordance with various specifications, technical manuals, drawings and procedures. Candidates must be able to safely operate electrical and mechanical test equipment and hand tools on board submarine modules under construction. This is an hourly position located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED OR 2+ years of related technical experience
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems including motors, pumps and transformers
  • Able to work in confined spaces and in areas that are not climate controlled
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from schematics, wiring diagrams and complex manufacturing blueprints
  • Competency with Electric Boat procedures, technical manuals, shipyard procedures and test documents
  • Able and available to work all assigned shifts and extended hours, as business needs dictate
  • Individuals will be required to possess their own basic hand tools
  • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense
  • Strong computer and mathematical skills (percentages, decimals and division)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals

Nice To Haves

  • Military experience
  • Previous electrical test experience
  • Vocational, Technical, Community College or appropriate Apprenticeship programs
  • Troubleshooting experience

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and documenting PM component location and status changes
  • Validating database information against ship’s hardware/components
  • Assisting in the planning and scheduling of PM activities
  • Reviewing PM records for completeness and accuracy
  • Performing and documenting PM activities (once qualified) per PM work orders
