About The Position

Press manager to schedule and monitor press staff to assure efficient and cost-effective production of newspaper. Also responsible for staff training and associate performance standards. Job performance must always be aligned with the primary job responsibility to customer satisfaction for both internal and external customers. Customers are defined as anyone that does or may come in contact with your department, our products or services. This effectively defines the customer as everyone. Active participation in teamwork in everyday work and/or on special project teams. Leadership role in the strategic planning and implementation of company goals and objectives. Anticipate the future and develop circulation plans to meet changing business needs. Administer and plan circulation activities to enable the company to meet short and long range business plans. Serve as a member of the operating committee to ensure the company’s goals are achieved with consideration for circulation issues. Hours worked in production departments may vary greatly due to special projects, weather, personnel shortages and press runs. Must be willing to adapt to changing schedules. Able to react to change productively and handle other essential duties as assigned. Timely attendance during a regular and predictable schedule is required. Requirements

  • Basic math skills.
  • Physical movement to adjust and repair press.
  • Mobility to move from pressroom to reel room, plate room, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Education: BS in business management or related years of experience.
  • Experience: Five years experience with doublewide web offset press. Two years experience with doublewide pressroom management.

Responsibilities

  • Track and order all pressroom supplies.
  • Must read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Oversee cleanliness and maintenance of pressroom and equipment.
  • Process accurate reports for the press department.
  • Assist in hiring, training, evaluation and overall supervision of associates.
  • Responsible for all shifts in press department.
  • Establish performance to print schedule with low waste and high quality.
  • Assure completion of department payroll. Keep track of vacation, holiday, personal and sick time.
