Columbia Gorge Education Service District Position Description Title: Bilingual Instructional Assistant - Summer Department: Migrant Education Program Supervised by: Lead Teacher and Director of Migrant Education Position Purpose: To assist a certified teacher in providing instruction to students or small groups which facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing a District-approved curriculum. Core Job Functions: Prepare teaching materials and reports for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of student progress. Assist in the presentation of instructional materials and academic instruction to individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher. Assist students to improve their success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a District approved curriculum. Communicate with students in English and/or Spanish to facilitate instructional processes; provide interpretation during telephone calls with limited or non-English speaking parents; translate or write notes, letters and other materials. Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to students, families, colleagues or district patrons. Use or relay personal information only in the course of performing assigned responsibilities and in the best interest of the individuals involved. Observe and control behavior of students in and out of the classroom for providing a clean, safe and optimal learning environment. Observe and communicate students’ performance to provide feedback to students, parents, and the teacher regarding student progress. Perform duties relating to a student’s physical needs. Perform clerical duties such as filing, typing, and duplicating. Attends and participates in meetings; collaborates with staff, parents, and community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes. Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, parents, staff and the public. Department Specific Responsibilities: Reports incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse, etc.) to maintain personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to district policies. Participates in meetings and in-service training programs, as assigned. Maintains regular attendance at work and work activities; is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules. Performs other duties as may be assigned by classroom teacher, Director of Migrant Education, or Superintendent to support the success of the agency.
