About The Position

The St. Alphonsus School Summer Day Care Program is seeking a caring, dependable Preschool Aide to collaboratively run a small, play-based summer program for children ages 2.5 to 5 . Preschool Aides help create a welcoming, safe, and nurturing environment rooted in Catholic values such as respect, kindness, and compassion. The program is designed to provide a joyful summer experience through hands-on activities, outdoor time, rest routines, creativity, and faith-centered community. Preschool Aides support all daily operations of the classroom, including supervision, activities, transitions, meal and rest periods, and preparing and maintaining instructional spaces. As Early Learning Teacher Aides, they participate in required preservice training and document professional development annually as outlined by state licensing rules.

Requirements

  • At least 14 years old
  • High school diploma or current enrollment in high school/equivalent program
  • Completion of DCYF preservice requirements (per WAC 110-300-0105)
  • Ability to pass a Washington State background check
  • Supportive of Catholic school values, mission, and community expectations
  • Experience and enthusiasm working with young children

Nice To Haves

  • CPR/First Aid, Food Handler's Permit (program may provide training)

Responsibilities

  • Child Supervision & Safety
  • Provide continuous visual and auditory supervision of children
  • Maintain a safe, clean classroom and outdoor environment
  • Support toileting, handwashing, and personal-care routines
  • Follow program procedures for injury or accident documentation
  • Program Routines & Activities
  • Co-lead daily routines including arrival, centers, snack, lunch, rest time, and dismissal
  • Assist in preparing and cleaning up materials for play and learning
  • Guide children during indoor/outdoor exploration, arts & crafts, sensory play, and read-alouds
  • Maintain calm, consistent transitions throughout the day

  • Model Catholic values of kindness, respect, dignity, and service
  • Participate in simple prayer moments, grace before meals, or faith-aligned story time
  • Uphold a welcoming, inclusive classroom environment
  • Collaboration & Communication
  • Work as a two-person teaching team, dividing responsibilities evenly
  • Communicate needs, concerns, and updates to the Program Supervisor
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism with families and staff
  • Support a positive, joyful, and orderly summer program culture
  • PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS
  • Attend orientation and required trainings
  • Adhere to all summer program policies and licensing requirements
  • Maintain punctuality and reliable attendance during scheduled shifts
