About The Position

The Amherst Public School District is currently seeking candidates for a full year Special Education Preschool Administrator to provide leadership for our integrated early childhood program servicing up to 100 three to five year old students with and without disabilities. This is an administrative position in the Amherst Pelham Administrators Association unit. Qualified candidates will possess the following experiences, training, and skills that are consistent with the overall position responsibilities but not limited to them.

Requirements

  • Experience with teaching or servicing preschool students with and without disabilities
  • In depth understanding of the early childhood typical development, disabilities, and preschool curriculum frameworks
  • Comprehensive understanding of the special education eligibility process and Massachusetts Special Education Regulations including those applicable to transitioning children from early intervention services to the public schools
  • Experience with program leadership, development, design and monitoring
  • Understanding and expertise with preschool age child development and the connection with mental health and trauma informed practices
  • Experience with developmentally appropriate positive behavior intervention systems for preschool programs
  • Experience with and ability to coordinate rolling student enrollment, assessment, class placement for students with and without disabilities
  • Experience with chairing IEP Team meetings, as well as supporting the development of comprehensive IEPs and related IEP documentation
  • Experience with a diverse population of students within a multi-cultural community including English Language Learners
  • Ability to work closely, collaboratively and effectively with a team of teachers, service providers, referring agencies, outside providers, and families
  • Experience with effective family engagement and partnership including outreach, training and support
  • Highly effective executive function skills including being well organized, strong time management and scheduling skills, and able to work independently to meet timelines
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills that promote and encourage collaboration with colleagues, parents, and administrators
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work within a fast paced environment focused on student learning, data collection, and measurable outcomes
  • Willingness to travel between school buildings, community-based early childhood settings, and student homes as needed for the purposes of screening, collaborating with caregivers and other early childhood providers, and transition meetings
  • Candidates must possess a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education SE Administrative or other administrative license.

  • Highly qualified candidates who are bilingual (Spanish / English) are desirable but not required.
