About The Position

The Prenatal Genetic Counselor I plays a vital role within a close‑knit, collaborative, and highly supportive genetics team, providing comprehensive prenatal genetic counseling services across multiple clinic locations. This role will work with the current 3-person genetic counseling team to support the growing Maternal‑Fetal Medicine (MFM) division. As demand for MFM services continues to grow, this position is essential to maintaining consistent, high‑quality patient care across all practices. In addition to direct patient care, this role includes an expectation of teaching MFM fellows, OB residents, and genetic counseling students in addition to clinical supervision of genetic counseling students, supporting the next generation of genetic counselors.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an ACGC-accredited program (completion by June 2026)
  • Active Candidate Status for ABGC board certification or Board‑Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC)
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and municipal laws, regulations, and standards impacting genetic counseling services
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex and sensitive information with empathy and professionalism
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with patients, families, students, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to remain organized and composed in emotionally complex or high‑stress clinical situations
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills
  • Basic computer proficiency, including use of electronic medical records and standard computer applications

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive prenatal genetic counseling and genetic testing services aligning with the American Board of Genetic Counseling
  • Interpret clinical and laboratory findings and communicate results clearly to patients and healthcare providers
  • Research genetic disorders and relay clinical and genetic information in a meaningful, patient‑centered manner
  • Assess psychosocial needs and provide emotional support to patients and families during complex or high‑stress situations
  • Educate patients regarding the risks, benefits, and limitations of genetic testing and medical procedures to support informed consent
  • Refer patients and families to appropriate community, state, or national resources and maintain follow‑up as needed
  • Provide clear, timely, and accurate written documentation of genetic consultations for patients and referring providers
  • Collaborate directly with laboratory services to order genetic and related tests and evaluate results upon receipt
  • Coordinate reference testing and services with non‑ACL laboratories when required
  • Support coverage of MFM and ultrasound services across eight clinic locations to ensure continuity and standardization of care
  • Participate in and support the MFM Genetics Clinic held twice monthly
  • Provide teaching, mentorship, and clinical supervision to genetic counseling students, including support of clinical education objectives and professional development
