About The Position

We are looking for a detail-driven an technically proficient Preconstruction Engineer to support the planning and coordination of HVAC and Plumbing systems on multifamily residential projects.  This role emphasizes drawing review, submittal preparation, technical documentation, and coordination-playing a critical role in ensuring smooth project execution from preconstruction through project turnover.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience in HVAC and Plumbing design, drafting, or preconstruction (preferably multifamily).
  • Understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems and submittal processes.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting MEP drawings, schematics, specifications, and building codes.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and/or Navisworks is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with submittal software platforms (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Plangrid) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Drawing Review & Coordination:
  • Review mechanical and plumbing drawings to ensure accuracy, code compliance, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Identify design discrepancies or constructability issues and proactively coordinate resolutions with designers, consultants, and internal teams.
  • Support BIM coordination efforts and clash detection during the design and preconstruction phase.
  • complete project take-offs and true-ups from estimating.
  • Submittal & Documentation Preparation:
  • Prepare and compile detailed HVAC and plumbing submittals, including equipment data, shop drawings, and product cut sheets.
  • Coordinate submittal timelines with project management and design teams to meet construction schedules.
  • Maintain organized logs and records of submittal approvals, revisions, and resubmissions.
  • Technical Support:
  • Assist in generating mechanical and plumbing system layouts, schematic diagrams, and riser drawings when required.
  • Support the design--assist process by working with project stakeholders to provide practical, field-informed input on system design and material selections.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with specifications, local building codes, and project standards.
  • Project Coordination:
  • Attend coordination and design meetings to track MEP progress and provide technical input as needed.
  • Support preconstruction and project management teams with equipment selections, preliminary layouts, and integration of long-lead items into design.
  • Interface with vendors and manufacturers to obtain accurate technical information and support procurement efforts.
