About The Position

GENERAL DESCRIPTION Summer Camp at the JCCSF offers one-week to three-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-8. Art focused Camps are in session June 2 – August 22. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more. The Pottery Specialist will be responsible for designing and facilitating age appropriate curriculum centered around the basics of ceramic art. The specialist will create their program to span two weeks per session. There will be multiple two week sessions over the course of the Summer. The specialist will introduce campers to various techniques creating ceramic art while thoroughly and safely engaging the campers artistic curiosity. The ideal candidate should have strong classroom management skills and must be able to implement a well-rounded art curriculum for youth ages 6 - 11. They should also be able to use and demonstrate the usage of multiple techniques, styles, and mediums of art.

Requirements

At least 1 year as an educator
Knowledge and ability to explain and facilitate age-appropriate design and tool use skills for elementary school-aged campers.
Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
Passion for art, informal education and youth programs.
Ability to work well both in a team environment and independently.
Must have enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise.
Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand/walk for approximately 6 hours a day.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of summer camps preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepare for and deliver up to 12 weeks of camp programming, including creating supply lists, curriculum development and teaching daily lessons
Implement an interactive, age-appropriate curriculum
Support camper drop-off and pick-up processes
Provide excellent customer service to camp families by communicating with them about their camper’s experience
Set-up camp room/art studio and cleanup daily
Implement daily safety check of art making tools.
Practice personal leadership skills.
Model appropriate behavior for campers.
Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors.
Additional responsibilities as required.
