About The Position

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral scholar position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Penn State under the direction of Dr. Guhaprasanna Manogharan. We are looking for talented, ambitious, and hard-working candidates. This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
• Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in an appropriate field and be able to provide evidence that all requirements have been met for completion of the Ph.D. prior to the effective date of hire
• Experience in metal LPBF and in-situ monitoring
• Experience in Python programming and ML methods

Responsibilities

• Develop digital twin prediction models for defects in metal additive manufacturing - coding and documentation
• Perform analysis on CT scan of metal AM specimens
• Prepare draft reports/slides for program reporting
• Participate in weekly and monthly meetings with the DARPA team (external)
• Participate in weekly individual and group meetings (internal)
• Participate in professional development activities
