The Frank lab in the Department of Chemical Physiology & Biochemistry at Oregon Health & Science University is seeking an energetic Postdoctoral Researcher with a background in organic chemistry or chemical biology to work on a project developing fluorescent probes to interrogate cannabinoid receptor expression in the brain. The project involves synthesizing organic small molecules and applying them to live cells and rodent tissues using fluorescence microscopy.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or related field.
  • Experience working in an organic chemistry or chemical biology lab.
  • Knowledge of standard organic synthetic techniques (reaction setup, column chromatography, etc.)
  • Knowledge of small molecule analysis (NMR, mass spectrometry).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in both written and oral formats.
  • Ability to work both independently and with others in a positive and productive manner.
  • High level of self-motivation and integrity.
  • Organizational skills and careful attention to details to satisfactorily perform job duties.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and cordially coordinate use of research equipment and laboratory space with other staff.
  • Fluent in Microsoft office suites (outlook, word, excel, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Documented research productivity in the area of Chemistry or Chemical Biology through first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience designing chemical probes for biological systems.
  • Experience in biological experiments including cell culture and fluorescence microscopy.

Responsibilities

  • Synthetic chemistry – including reaction setup, compound purification and analysis by NMR and mass spectrometry.
  • Biologcal experiments – cell culture, confocal microscopy, and spectroscopy.
  • Data analysis and record keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experimental procedures, data collection and analysis performed.
  • Reporting experimental results, writing manuscripts in preparation for publication, presenting research findings at scientific conferences.
  • Maintain high level of professional expertise through familiarity with current scientific literature.
