A postdoctoral position is available in the research lab of Dr. Tim Miyashiro within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at The Pennsylvania State University. The Miyashiro lab investigates mechanisms of bacterial colonization of hosts using the squid-Vibrio model system using a range of techniques including animal studies, genomics, and molecular biology. Responsibilities will include providing intellectual leadership in experimental design, execution, and interpretation of results. This person will also assist with writing publications and assuring scientific rigor, consistency, and record keeping within the labs, and is expected to participate in all aspects of the labs, including squid-colonization assays. Candidates must have a background in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, including protein identification, quantitation, and thermal proteome profiling, and in mass spectrometry-based targeted and untargeted metabolomics. In addition, the candidate should have experience with biochemical assays assessing biomolecular interactions. Experience with bacterial genetics and molecular cloning is expected. Applicants must hold a PhD in microbiology or equivalent life-sciences field. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Applications must be submitted electronically.
