This Postdoctoral Fellow position is funded by Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and The Welch Foundation. The aim for this position is to investigate cancer-causing viruses and their interactions with hosts using a spectrum of structural biology techniques. We will take advantage of the state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), cryo-correlative microscopy (cryo-CLEM), cryo-FIB milling, coupled with functional assays to dissect the molecular mechanisms of cancer-causing viruses.

Requirements

  • PhD must have been received within the past 3 years.
  • This is a temporary training position that can be renewed annually, for a maximum of five years, based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding.
  • PhD students are encouraged to apply with related field, relevant experience, for similar arrangements.
  • A strong background and track-record in molecular biology, structural biology, and infectious diseases.
  • Capacity to plan your own work and objectives on a 12-month basis and manage your experimental work within the project along with your supervisor.
  • Ability to identify, develop, and apply the relevant techniques to achieve the goals of the projects.
  • Basic knowledge in coding language, including but not limited to, basics of Linux, MATLAB, Python.
  • Ability to carry out both wet-lab work for sample preparation and dry-lab work for image analysis.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • To undertake research aimed at applying cryo-electron microscopy, cryo-electron tomography, cryo-correlative microscopy, and cryo-FIB milling to study molecular architecture of cancer-causing viruses and their interactions with hosts.
  • To identify, develop, and apply a broad range of techniques to pursue the research objective.
  • To draft scientific papers and contribute to the overall preparation of research for publication and grant application.
  • To present scientific progress within the group and at external conferences.
