About The Position

The Thomas Jefferson Center for the Study of Core Texts and Ideas invites applications for a post-doctoral teaching fellowship for a term of one academic year, subject to receipt of funding, from August 16, 2026 to August 15, 2027. This position is a full-time appointment that provides a competitive salary and benefits. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. degree within the past three (3) years before the starting date. Please submit a cover letter explaining your interest in teaching the great books in a multi-disciplinary setting and setting forth research aims and plans, a current C.V., a research paper or other suitable evidence of scholarship, evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and a list of references (one of which should be from a previous supervisor). Requirements

  • Must have a Ph.D., conferred no more than 3 years before the start date, and may not hold a tenured position elsewhere.

  • List of three (3) professional references
  • Cover letter explaining your interest in teaching the great books in a multi-disciplinary setting and setting forth research aims and plans.
  • Research paper or other suitable evidence of scholarship
  • Evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching

Responsibilities

  • Teach one undergraduate course per semester on classic writings in one of our core categories: history of political philosophy; the challenge of the Greeks; the Bible and other major religious texts; and the American civic tradition.
  • Conduct scholarly research.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
