About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 12 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Acts as a direct link between the institution and U.S. Postal Service on related issues. Oversees the daily operations of sorting inmate letters addressed to the public and public letters, magazines, newspapers, etc. and distributes them inside the institution. Supervises Postal Technician I staff. Oversees the operation of electronic scales, meters and other postal equipment as needed for weight, postage, and shipping systems. Investigates complaints of missing or lost mail, packages and deliveries. Performs duties such as computing daily postage charges, operating computer systems, operating printer systems, maintain various logs, etc. Loads and unloads mail. Keeps in contact with the U.S. Postal Services on any changes to rules, regulations and/or procedures. Oversees the daily operations of distributing and delivering of legal mail and keeping confidentiality. Sends daily memorandum to Unit Administrators for legal mail pick up. The ideal candidate should possess customer service communication skills, organization skills, and have displayed the ability to complete work related activities in a professional manner. This candidate should display the ability to plan, pays attention to detail, think critically and analyze data to forecast positive outcomes. This candidate should possess the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment and adapt to the ever-changing needs of the Department and Division.
