About The Position

he post-doctoral associate or civil engineer will work full-time at the FDOT Materials Office in Gainesville to provide technical expertise and services to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) State Materials Office (SMO), as well as the District Materials and Research Offices, in meeting the specific needs of day-to-day applications of mass concrete placements, research in Portland cement, supplementary cementitious materials, and concrete in general. The work will be performed under the general supervision and guidance of the FDOT staff.  In general, the services provided will consist of: •             Professional services including technical support of SMO and District personnel with laboratory and field issues related to structural concrete and pavement concrete. •             Design of field and laboratory research projects, laboratory testing and reporting. •             Laboratory and field equipment installation and maintenance. •             Development of the database of heat of hydration and adiabatic temperature rise tables for concrete mix designs used in mass concrete applications across Florida. •             Incorporation of research and laboratory findings into FDOT specification documents, in particular Section 346 of the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, and Section 9.4 of the Materials Manual. •             Assistance with the development of performance-based specifications. •             Provide formal and informal training as part of technology transfer to the FDOT’s staff in related tasks, and as directed by the Project Manager.

Requirements

  • PhD in related field.
  • Candidates with strong background in concrete materials, instrumentation, statistical methods, and database applications will be considered for this position.
