About The Position

The Clarke Lab is searching for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Biology interested in contributing to an innovative project combining proteomics, cell biology, biochemistry, and evo-devo. The ideal candidate will contribute as a biochemist or cell biologist to an interdisciplinary project exploring the role of cell adhesion proteins in the origin of multicellularity. The Clarke lab has recently established an interdisciplinary project combining proteomics, biochemistry, and cell biology to explore the role of cell adhesion proteins in the origin of animal multicellularity. The postdoc will contribute to the development and application of biochemical and cellular assays to characterize the functions of adhesion proteins in non-bilaterian animals (sponges, placozoans, cnidarians, ctenophores). The ideal candidate will have a background in biochemistry, cell biology, or evo-devo, and experience applying these methods to investigate questions related to cell adhesion or morphogenesis. Other essential qualifications are a experience with computational and statistical methods, a strong work ethic, the ability to work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative group, and a track record of publications. The candidate must also be willing to mentor students. Previous experience in evolutionary developmental biology and non-bilaterian animals is desirable but not required. The Postdoctoral Associate will have opportunities for career growth by collaborating with multiple research groups, attending meetings, and through institutional access to career development platforms at the University of Miami. This is a two-year position with the possibility of a third-year renewal if funds for the project are available. Please include your CV (including contact information for three references) and a cover letter explaining your fit for this position.
