About The Position

The Defense Sector at Leidos has an opening for a Portfolio Chief Engineer. The Chief Engineer will provide both tactical and strategic technical leadership for the Test Instrumentation & Lethal Mechanisms (TI&LM) Portfolio. This position will be based onsite at Leidos in Huntsville, AL. The TI&LM portfolio specializes in the design, development, production and test of various electronic fuzing, telemetry and flight data acquisition products for DoD and Aerospace customers. This is a full-time, fast-paced, high-visibility position that will report to the TI&LM Portfolio Manager and have supervisory responsibility.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret clearance
  • Typically requires a BA/BS or equivalent experience and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Generally has 4+ years of experience supervising or leading teams or projects.
  • Knowledge and experience with Avionics products and systems; fuzing and ordnance systems is a plus
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and build relationships across all levels
  • Strong business acumen and interpersonal skills.
  • Requires ability to communicate with both internal and external executive-level leadership
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Familiarity or prior experience with product qualification process (MIL-STD-1316F and JOTP-51 thru -53 and -62)

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical ownership and oversight of all current and future products within the TI&LM portfolio
  • Drive application of engineering principles to business practice
  • Organize and direct engineering staff to meet objectives for design, new product development and improvement of existing designs
  • Oversee design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products/designs/technology or improvement of existing ones
  • Drive design for manufacturability (DFM), design for testability (DFT) and design for assembly (DFA) improvements to support high-rate production
  • Formulate aspects of engineering design proposal resource requirements; support proposal development and reviews
  • Plan and develop engineering requirements to develop new markets
  • Regular interfacing and alignment with both internal and external customers, including government and industry partners
  • Communication and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders including Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality and Business Development
  • Identify, mitigate and manage technical risks and issues.
  • Identify and capture technical opportunities.
