About The Position

Performs a variety of duties related to the operation and management of City indoor and outdoor pools. Responsible for overall maintenance of the facility and for the safety of individuals using the pool area. The shifts range from 4:30am-9pm and require weekend work.

Requirements

  • KNOWLEDGE: Pool mechanics, chemistry and routine maintenance; swim instruction philosophies and methods for swim instruction; life guarding methods and techniques; aquatic safety and accident prevention; principles and practices of supervision, training and evaluation.
  • SKILL: Preparing written reports and projects; in operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
  • ABILITY: Analyze mechanical pool problems and make minor repairs; perform routine mechanical and chemical pool maintenance; identify and correct facility safety hazards; supervise, train and evaluate subordinates; work under minimal supervision; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, and patrons; use good judgment and make sound decisions in stressful or emergency situations; deal tactfully with public; accurately complete a variety of forms, logs and reports; work in a highly visible work environment; sufficient strength to make rescues and lift 50 lbs.
  • TRAINING: High School Diploma or equivalent. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR, First Aid required.
  • EXPERIENCE: Previous supervisory experience in aquatics; previous pool maintenance experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor and Certified Pool Operator desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for staffing aquatics areas effectively on a day-to-day basis: scheduling and assigning Lifeguards, Swim Instructors and Aids; cashiers and slide attendants; training and evaluating pool staff.
  • Responsible for taking action and addressing concerns in a proactive manner in order to avoid potential problems or larger incidents.
  • Conduct emergency drills and evaluation of staff on regular basis; conduct safety checks of equipment; enforce policies, rules, regulations governing conduct of pool patrons; act as a problem solver to patrons.
  • Complete and maintain a variety of reports, forms, files, and other records as required in an accurate and timely manner, i.e., daily records of water chemistry, attendance, maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Completion and direction of routine maintenance of pool area; monitor and maintain water chemistry to state codes; supervise cash control from admissions and concessions.
  • Conduct daily walk-through of facility to ensure appropriate appearance; document needed repairs and maintenance; maintain accurate inventory of first-aid, chemical, operating and program supplies; assist Recreation Supervisor with purchase of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Perform related work as required and assigned.
