Under general direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, the state-certified Law Enforcement Officer enforces the laws of the State of South Carolina, municipal codes as applicable, and federal laws as they apply for properties of the Greenville Health Authority. This role performs all duties of a police officer, applying problem-solving techniques in support of the Department's community policing philosophy to protect life and property. Responsibilities include responding to calls for service, reporting findings, taking appropriate action to resolve issues, patrolling assigned areas, assisting with crime scene security and processing, conducting follow-up investigations, and employing crime reduction/prevention techniques. The officer supports prosecution of criminal cases, acts as a liaison between the Police Department and the campus community, and builds rapport with staff, patients, and visitors. Other duties involve making court appearances, serving warrants/subpoenas, placing items into property and evidence, investigating auto accidents, and directing pedestrian and vehicular traffic as needed. The Greenville Health Authority Police Department does not participate in the South Carolina Police Officer Retirement System (SC PORS); instead, GHA Police Officers are offered a matching 457B plan through Prisma Health as a retirement saving plan.
