Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Police Communications Operator - Boca Raton, FL. Summary of Responsibilities: Operate Police and other radio systems, monitor alarms, access control and camera systems. 24/7 Monitor gun detection software, and License Plate Recognition system by responding, verifying, entering hot list information, trespass warnings, risk protection orders and behavioral threat issues associated with the designated license plate, and providing the appropriate response, for both firearm detection and License plate detection. Dispatching officers and other emergency personnel as needed in accordance with departmental policy and procedure. Handle emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, prioritize calls and channel pertinent information to officers and supervisory personnel. Accurately documenting officer status location and activity. Make necessary emergency notifications. Operate Criminal Justice Information Systems computer terminal to include inquiries and entering persons, vehicles and property at the direction of officers. Provide the public with assistance on complaints and informational services, lost and found property, directions, fingerprinting and other services. Use tact and discretion. Observe strict confidentiality rules. Direct persons to proper supervisory level as necessary. Monitor messages directed to the department and information related to local criminal activity, and monitoring weather and campus security issues as a 24/7 Emergency Management warning point, which would require notification to all campuses through the Sircom system in accordance with departmental policy and procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of police terminology and procedures, Florida criminal and civil law as it pertains to police operations, campus geography, police services and University policies and procedures pertaining to police operations.
