About The Position

The PointersWay for Success Coordinator provides subject matter expertise in the development and execution of programs within the scope of student learning and development. This role organizes the facilitation and development of curriculum design for ongoing and new educational initiatives, striving to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment. The Coordinator serves with the Office of Student Experience and Transformation at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) for the PointersWay for Success program. PointersWay for Success is an invitation-only program for incoming students who demonstrate potential and a commitment to earning their degree, selected through a holistic review by the UWSP Admissions team. The Coordinator will support the student's overall experience during their first three semesters at UWSP, which includes coordinating the summer bridge week, meeting with students for early check-ins, planning academic year programs, hiring/staffing student help, and potentially teaching first-year seminar or related courses. The program's goal is to increase student participants’ persistence rate, maintain good academic standing, and increase graduation rates. This is a two-year project initiative funded position from May 2026 to June 30, 2028, and is an academic staff appointment reviewed annually, contingent on continued funding.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of professional work experience in academic advising, coaching, and/or mentoring students.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating discussions and events in small and large groups.
  • Demonstrated experience or evidence of effective interpersonal communication skills that demonstrate the ability to work with, sensitivity to the needs, and build rapport with students who would benefit from additional academic and transitional support, university partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong proficiency in oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, student personnel or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience working with students in post-secondary education.
  • One or more years of experience teaching and/or facilitating discussions in small and large groups in a classroom.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in working with student record keeping databases (i.e., Peoplesoft, Navigate or similar system), data analysis skills, and MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the PointersWay for Success Coordinator with the Office of Student Experience and Transformation at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP).
  • Coordinate the summer bridge week.
  • Meet with students at least once per semester for early check-in.
  • Plan academic year programs to support student success.
  • Hire and staff student help.
  • May teach first year seminar or related courses.
  • Write, edit, and publish content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns.
  • Organize student-focused programming and resources to promote new and ongoing educational initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert regarding student affairs to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Generate and analyze reports of curricular and unit outcomes.
  • Create and maintain schedules, logistics, and resources for one or multiple student affairs programs, activities, and/or services.
