About The Position

The Plumbing Shop Supervisor is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of all plumbing systems on the campus. This includes, but is not limited to lift stations, water heaters, sinks, toilets, water fountains/bottle fillers, etc. This position conducts all backflow inspections and provides input regarding plumbing systems on new buildings and remodels. The Plumbing Shop Supervisor supports Chattanooga State's Strategic Plan: Holistic Student Support The Plumbing Shop Supervisor oversees all systems and initiatives relative to plumbing at our school and works to keep them functioning properly and in good working order. Fiscal Stewardship The Plumbing Shop Supervisor partners with local vendors to assist with effective pricing for the institution. The Plumbing Shop Supervisor also strives to stay on top of preventative maintenance in an effort to reduce risk of failing systems and parts. The employee will assist in the development of a zero based budget. Requirements

Minimum of high school diploma or GED.
Vocational school certificate in plumbing or completion of a plumber's apprenticeship.
May consider at least 3 years of experience in lieu of certificate or apprenticeship.
No less than 3 years of plumbing experience.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must be able to work in Hamilton County, TN
Knowledge of: All local, state and federal codes relative to plumbing
Knowledge of: Chattanooga State and TBR policies/guidelines
Knowledge of: Plant Operations protocols and operating guidelines
Knowledge of: Occupational hazards and safety precautions
Knowledge of: The tools, equipment and materials common to the plumbing trade
Knowledge of: Supervisory principles and practices
Skilled in: Minor and major plumbing
Skilled in: Oral and written communication
Skilled in: Reading blueprints and schematic drawings
Able to: Maintain healthy working relationships with all members of the campus community.
Able to: Receive and champion directives from supervisors.
Able to: Complete a task efficiently considering safety the most important factor.
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds safely and independently.
Requires the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently.

Responsibilities

Supervise and perform work in the installation, maintenance and repair of the college plumbing systems.
Coordinate, supervise and assist in activities involving the college's plumbing, boiler, hot water, potable water, and sewer systems. Perform skilled and semi-skilled plumbing work in the maintenance and repair of plumbing systems, equipment and fixtures.
Conduct preventative maintenance on water heaters, pipes, pumps, etc. in a timely manner.
Delegate tasks to assigned workers.
Obtain needed supplies and equipment to complete assigned tasks.
Communicate with staff to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Direct and perform a variety of repair or replacement functions related to plumbing, minor electrical work related to water heaters, wiring of pumps and motors, etc.
Repair and replace broken water and sewer lines.
Clean sewer and drain lines, toilets, etc.
Perform maintenance and installation functions associated with all water system equipment.
Measure, cut, thread, an assist in the installation of pipes and tubing.
Repair and replace hot water tanks, circulating pumps, etc.
Inspect assigned jobs and estimate the materials required to complete the job.
Repair and replace valves and other plumbing components.
Keep an accurate inventory of needed equipment and supplies.
Read work orders and blueprints.
Assign workload and inspect jobs.
Assure compliance with appropriate safety standards.
Generate various reports and maintain shop records and files.
Perform assigned personnel administrative functions.
Perform actual plumbing duties when required.
Keep an organized and tidy work area, supply area and vehicle.
Drive a truck or golf cart as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
