About The Position

The Lighting Rep Agency Trainee is an entry-level developmental role designed to provide introductory training in lighting sales, product knowledge, specification support, quotations and customer relationship management. This position offers comprehensive exposure to lighting products, project management processes, and the overall operations of a lighting manufacturer’s representative agency. The trainee will work closely with identified internal knowledge resources inclusive of contractor/distributor and specification salespeople to gain the technical background and skills necessary to grow within the agency. Training & Development Focus This role is structured to provide exposure to: Lighting fundamentals (photometrics, controls, energy codes) Sales strategy and territory management Project lifecycle from specification to order fulfillment Distributor and contractor sales channels Manufacturer relationships and product positioning Quotation and pricing strategy

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Business, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, or related field)
  • Strong interest in lighting, architecture, construction, or technical sales
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to read construction documents is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior sales representatives with project tracking, quotations, and follow-up
  • Support specification efforts with lighting designers, engineers, and architects
  • Coordinate with manufacturers on product availability, pricing, and technical data
  • Learn to interpret lighting layouts, schedules, and construction documents
  • Provide product information and training materials to distributors and contractors
  • Participate in job site visits, customer meetings, and manufacturer training sessions
  • Help maintain CRM systems, project pipelines, and sales reporting
  • Support order management and resolve basic customer service inquiries
  • Develop product knowledge across multiple lighting lines (architectural, decorative, controls, etc.)
  • Attend industry networking events and trade shows as needed
