About The Position

The PLC Controls Specialist is responsible for designing, programming, repairing, & maintaining manufacturing and packaging control systems and equipment used within Altium Packaging. This position requires strong mechanical & electrical skills in areas such as hydraulics, pneumatics, packaging equipment, material transfers, blow molders and PLC systems. The technician will inspect equipment for proper operation and perform preventative maintenance duties per manufacturer's specifications. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and make repairs or adjustments as needed. Most job duties and responsibilities require continuous work near heat, noise, hydraulic, gas, and melted plastic. Designing, programming, repairing and troubleshooting control systems, often working with PLC's and HMI systems. Perform preventative maintenance on PLC systems. Download & save programs for all PLC systems on every line to back them up. Upgrade production lines with new equipment and technology. Install and test new manufacturing, packaging and processing equipment. Interface with machine tools and special equipment or test modules, troubleshoot existing equipment for electrical or electronics failures and change or modify machines to improve or update them. Work with IT and equipment manufacturers to troubleshoot and repair control systems. Inspect, repair, install, modify, and maintain electrical/electronic systems, control circuits and other production equipment. Responsible for developing user interfaces and ensuring systems meet safety and efficiency standards. Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical systems, blow molders, packaging equipment, resin transferring systems and support equipment. Work with production to make rapid, educated decisions regarding the issue at hand. Ensure safety of electrical networks and cables. Participate and direct troubleshooting activities in the event of equipment failure including participation in failure analysis, problem solving and prevention. Support repairs and installations for advanced production/manufacturing equipment. Maintain machines in optimal processing conditions. Perform mold, pin and other mechanical changes. Execute preventative maintenance and repairs when required in addition to planned mechanical maintenance duties. Participate in continuous improvement culture while following safe workplace practices. Develop positive and respectful interactions with managers, supervisors, maintenance technicians, and machine operators. Perform welding and fabrication as needed. Perform other duties as required by supervisor/manager. Mentor and provide support to less experienced technicians. Enforce GMP, safety, & audit standards. Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards and with applicable laws and regulations issued by regulatory agencies. The position may require weekend and/or holiday work based on business needs. Reasonable mandatory overtime may be required due to business needs.

Requirements

  • Five (5) plus years of experience in industrial manufacturing controls & automation maintenance required.
  • Experience with PLCs/VFDs replacement and configuration.
  • Electrical/electronic troubleshooting and repair skills required.
  • Experience with basic electrical systems (e.g., starters, fuses, contacts, relays).
  • Experience with electronics (e.g., level probes, flow meters, drives/VFDs, etc.).
  • Experience with product manuals (e.g., reading and applying knowledge to make repairs).
  • Experience with schematics (e.g., electrical blueprints with switches, starters, maps, relays).
  • Experience with troubleshooting (e.g., diagnostics, problem solving, etc.).
  • Requires strong Automation, Electrical, and diagnostics skills along with Network and Computer hardware fundamentals knowledge.
  • Must be able to use RS Logix 5000, RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5, or similar softwares for machine troubleshooting.
  • Basic mathematical skills are required.
  • Must be able to download and/ or modify PLC programs if necessary.
  • Must be able to use a multimeter and work in control panels with up to 480VAC.
  • Understands symbols on P&ID’s and tag references online layout drawing.
  • Should be able to replace Panelview series HMI’s and download application using the proper programs & tools.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • OSHA forklift certification.
  • Aptitude for further development of technical skills.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Use hands to handle, touch and manipulate equipment and repairs.
  • Ability to repeatedly stoop, reach, kneel, crouch, bend, climb, and/ or twist throughout the shift as needed to successfully perform job duties.
  • Have vision abilities to include proximate vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus as well as be able to effectively see and process computer-generated images on a screen or hand-held device.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to push and/or pull up to 25 pounds.
