Performs various duties to ensure that all safety; quality; production and plant, property & equipment goals are met.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of steel fabrication, machining, and or heavy industry practices.
  • BS degree in engineering, management, manufacturing or construction preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as Plant Manager in a heavy industrial environment would be preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of steel fabrication production processes and applicable codes (e.g. AISC COSP, AISC Steel Spec, RCSC, AWS, etc.).
  • Knowledge of facility management.
  • Professional written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Proficient computer skills are required (e.g. MS Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience in leading a production team in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing tools.
  • Ability to work safely, productively and complete assignments without direct supervision

Nice To Haves

  • BS degree in engineering, management, manufacturing or construction preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all DSCO employees in safety by example.
  • Coach other employees to ensure safety policies and procedures are implemented and best practices are being utilized.
  • Ensure all employees are working safely, complying with policies and utilizing correct PPE.
  • Interface with the Safety Leader to address specific safety concerns and provide feedback for continuous process improvement.
  • Participate in all safety meetings.
  • Ensure that all employees are actively participating in good housekeeping practices.
  • Ensure that all direct reports are developing and following daily activity plans.
  • Model the expected safety behaviors to all employees.
  • Communicate with management on safety challenges and progress.
  • Ensure all work produced at the plant meets all customer requirements.
  • Ensure that employees do not knowingly pass along non-conforming work from their assigned area to the next.
  • Coordinate with quality staff to ensure that all quality management system procedures are complied with.
  • Fill out and submit all required paperwork for quality.
  • Provide feedback for continuous process improvement.
  • Participate in quality lesson(s) learned / NCR meetings as requested.
  • Coordinate with quality inspectors for hold points.
  • Communicate with management on quality challenges and progress.
  • Lead all direct reports by setting the example of the desired behaviors and desired outcome.
  • Provide direction, coaching, and counseling as required for production employees.
  • Demonstrate a genuine commitment to expanding and growing through professionalism, teamwork and preparedness.
  • Plan, schedule and manage the day-to-day requirements for all plant operations.
  • Plan and schedule employees and equipment for each project to meet schedule requirements.
  • Set up pre-production meetings with team as required.
  • Set production benchmarks and goals for each project.
  • Create and maintain work schedules for employees.
  • Anticipate obstacles, potential problems and issues with required work in advance that may impact safety, schedule, budget and / or quality and proactively develop methods to mitigate.
  • Coordinate with projects team for status reports and shipping schedules to manage production resources to meet customer needs.
  • Communicate with production control and purchasing to ensure that files and steel are available prior to shop need dates.
  • Develop and maintain schedule for each area of the plant.
  • Work collaboratively with other employees to resolve issues.
  • Review of new job specifications and drawings to determine requirements.
  • Track production hours, budget hours and keep employees informed on progress.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Communicate with management on production challenges and progress.
  • Others as assigned by management.
  • Treat all employees with respect and in a professional manner at all times.
  • Provide crystal clear direction to employees. Ensure that employees are focused in one consistent direction.
  • Schedule work hours and days for employees.
  • Hire, layoff and terminate employees with management approval.
  • Post and maintain all necessary and required items on bulletin boards.
  • Coordinate with the HR for: staffing needs, promotions, layoffs, terminations and all other HR items.
  • Resolve employees’ problems. Use HR and management as a resource.
  • Develop, promote and maintain a positive culture by investing in relationships.
  • Provide employee coaching for both positive feedback and course correction feedback.
  • Mentor the leads and provide coaching to assist them in meeting all goals for safety, quality and production.
  • Communicate with management on employee issues, questions and development needs.
  • Overall responsibility for the maintenance and safe operation of all plant, property and equipment.
  • Communicate and coordinate with maintenance manager and technicians as required to keep the facility in safe, productive working order.
  • Coordinate with maintenance manager to improve preventative maintenance process to ensure as few equipment breakdowns as possible.
  • Evaluate and manage all property, buildings and equipment to ensure priority improvements are completed and organizational goals are met.
