About The Position

Loveland Fire Rescue Authority (LFRA) is seeking a skilled and detail‑driven Plans Reviewer to help ensure the safety and resilience of new developments throughout the jurisdiction. Candidates who excel at collaboration, problem‑solving, and interpreting complex technical plans—and want to make a real impact on community safety—are encouraged to apply. Under the broad supervision of the Fire Marshal, this position reviews development proposals and building plans and/or fire protection system plans as it relates to fire equipment access, water distribution systems in relation to fire flow delivery, and fire/life safety standards in new developments and/or buildings being planned for construction in the City and/or Loveland Rural Fire Protection District. The salary range for this position is $39.52 - $55.29 per hour, with an anticipated hiring range of $39.52 - $47.41 per hour.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the International Fire, Building and Residential Codes and NFPA standards.
  • The ability to read and interpret complex plans, maps and specifications, technical manuals and engineering software.
  • The ability to analyze and resolve field engineering and inspections problems and assist with providing alternative solution based problem solving options.
  • A firm understanding of the intent as well as the independent and interdependent relationship between building codes, fire codes, national standards and hazardous materials compliance regulations.
  • The ability to identify fire hazards and determine mitigation solutions.
  • Advanced attention to detail skills, with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines; the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I and II.
  • ICC Fire Plans Examiner, and Colorado Fire Plans Examiner required within 6 months of hire date.
  • NIMS 100, 700 required within 6 months of hire date.
  • NWCG S130/190 (32-hour classroom portion) within 24 months of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree with major course work in building construction, engineering, or architectural design preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a plans reviewer, building or fire inspector, engineer, or architect.
  • Equivalent certifications will be evaluated and considered (e.g., NFPA Certified Fire Inspector I or II).

Responsibilities

  • Represents LFRA on the Conceptual Review Team and Development Review Teams at the City and Rural District levels relative to deficiencies and requirements for annexation, development, plat, utilities, and site plans for new subdivisions and developments.
  • Conducts plan reviews in coordination with other departments and architects, designers, builders, developers and contractors; identifies requirements and deficiencies related to fire protection and life safety issues.
  • Approves or disapproves plans submitted, and explains and interprets requirements and restrictions.
  • Draws details for and specifies required corrections on submitted plans when needed.
  • Conducts analysis of fire protection problems and/or issues and communicates findings through the use of computer generated reports and graphs.
