About The Position

The Planning Department requires a Planner for the Spatial Planning group at the Groton, CT Facility. This group supports the continued development of the EB Facility Master Plan, Virginia & Columbia Class submarine production, Virginia & Columbia Class spatial demand forecasts, barge and graving dock planning, Future Class concept development, as well as other future scheduling within multiple construction programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience in project management, event coordination and schedule development
  • Ability to state clearly what you need and expect from others
  • Capable of giving attention to all relevant areas of tasking to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when completing a task
  • Demonstrates sincere interest in meeting topics and, asks questions to clarify, gathers information and maintains conversation focus

Nice To Haves

  • B.A. or B.S. Degree
  • 5+ years experience in Planning/Production Control/Ship's Management/Trades/Navy Submarine service
  • Knowledge of Planning methodology and Groton Facility capabilities
  • Knowledge and experience in the field of project management, specifically towards project scheduling
  • Experience with project management software. Electronic Desktop System (EWP/PCM) or ARTEMIS
  • Experience in shop capacity analysis and/or logistics
  • Understanding of Lean/6-Sigma methodology
  • Proficiency in computer literacy proven through work experience; spreadsheets and presentations (Microsoft Visio experience desired)
  • Ability to read and extract relevant information from technical drawings

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain spatial schedules for long and mid-term forecasting Groton facilities, near-term production and resource schedules at the Groton facility, barge shipment schedules, and graving dock usage schedules.
  • Identify spatial conflicts, develop resolutions to support construction schedules and recommend potential cost improvements.
  • Regularly interface with Ship's Management, Program Office, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering and various Engineering disciplines.
  • Manage and identify scheduling and quantity issues with critical assets.
  • Assist in the development of current and future state shop capacity analysis; create value stream maps, identify backlogs, bottlenecks and material throughput flow.
  • Work in a collaborative team environment.
