About The Position

The PK-5 Math Curriculum Coordinator coordinates the district PK-5 Math program, along with other curricular initiatives. The position also provides leadership and assistance to teachers, principals, and supervisors for the improvement of PK-5 Math instruction within the district

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide PK-5 math program
  • Expertise in data analysis to improve student achievement
  • Knowledge of curriculum and standards-based instruction, current instructional and assessment research, instructional technology, computer instructional software, curriculum alignment, and current math issues and trends
  • Knowledge of strategies and materials for PK-5 math instruction
  • Knowledge of how to teach math concepts across the concrete, representational, abstract continuum
  • Knowledge of cross-curricular integration especially between math and science
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with administrators and teachers
  • In-depth knowledge of TEKS/State Assessments including assessment types beyond multiple choice
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a classroom teacher
  • Experience planning and implementing professional development

  • Master’s degree preferred; preferably in Math or Curriculum and Instruction

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and provide ongoing support for PK-5 Math teachers new to the profession
  • Mentor and provide ongoing support to campus instructional leaders related to curriculum and strategies to build teacher capacity
  • Work directly with classroom teachers and campus administrators to implement strategies to improve instruction and increase student performance, especially on campuses of high need
  • Provide classroom demonstration lessons that include best practices in teaching and learning such as instruction across the concrete, representational, abstract continuum.
  • Observe teachers and provide actionable feedback designed to improve instruction
  • Plan and implement aligned instructional initiatives/programs with District Professional Development Coordinator and Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction
  • Keep current with Math research and instructional strategies through professional literature
  • Attend Curriculum Department meetings and confer regularly with curriculum development staff
  • Attend conferences and workshops
  • Promote positive school-community relations by communicating effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community by projecting a positive image that enhances the district’s mission
  • Compile, maintain, and file appropriate reports, records, and documents related to job activities
  • Facilitate, write, edit and produce District curriculum documents in the area of PK-5 Math
  • Facilitate, write, edit, and produce cross curricular district curriculum documents with clear integration strategies
  • Facilitate, write, edit, and produce District assessments using multiple assessment types
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of Math curriculum to ensure adherence to state and local laws, vertical and horizontal alignment, and student achievement.
  • Plan for fiscal needs associated with professional development.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of personnel rules, regulations, and practices.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
