About The Position

BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Pipeline Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, integrity, and maintenance of oil, gas, and produced water pipeline systems supporting onshore and offshore operations. This role ensures safe, reliable, and compliant pipeline performance through engineering analysis, integrity management, and field execution. The Pipeline Engineer works cross-functionally with Operations, Facilities, Regulatory, and HSE teams to support pipeline integrity programs, maintenance activities, and capital projects. This position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with PHMSA, state, and federal regulations while optimizing pipeline system performance and minimizing operational risk.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or related engineering discipline required
  • Minimum 3-10+ years of pipeline engineering experience in oil & gas operations (onshore and/or offshore preferred)
  • Experience with pipeline integrity management, corrosion control, and regulatory compliance
  • Strong multi-tasking and project management skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present complex technical information clearly.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Familiarity with offshore pipeline systems and coastal operations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for pipeline systems including crude oil, natural gas, and produced water infrastructure
  • Monitor and evaluate pipeline system performance, pressures, flow rates, and throughput to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Support pipeline integrity management programs (IMP), including inspections, assessments, and remediation planning
  • Coordinate and support inline inspections (ILI), hydrostatic testing, pigging operations, and corrosion monitoring programs
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for pipeline upsets, leaks, or failures and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and maintain pipeline operating procedures, standards, and engineering documentation
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations including PHMSA (49 CFR Parts 192 & 195), CalGEM, and other governing agencies
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes related to pipeline modifications, repairs, and upgrades
  • Provide technical support for pipeline construction, repair, and maintenance projects, including contractor oversight
  • Collaborate with Corrosion, I&E, and Mechanical teams to ensure integrity and reliability of pipeline systems
  • Review and interpret pipeline data including SCADA trends, inspection reports, and integrity assessments
  • Support emergency response efforts related to pipeline incidents, including investigation and reporting
  • Participate in risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP, PHA) and implement mitigation measures
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking for pipeline maintenance and capital projects
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for compliance audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting
  • Conduct risk and threat assessments using qualitative and quantitative methodologies in alignment with ASME B31.8S and company-specific guidelines.
  • Plan and execute pressure testing programs, including hydrostatic testing, to confirm pipeline integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including field technicians, project managers, and regulatory personnel, to ensure consistent project delivery.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and client communications across multiple geographies.
  • Must work onsite daily in Goleta, CA.
