Provides front-line care and coordination of complex, critically ill patients in the PICU including assessment, diagnosis, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, bedside procedures, and family-centered care of patients and their families. Consults and collaborates with acute care providers and interdisciplinary team members on all assigned inpatients during daily rounds. Conducts patient assessments, medical histories, physical exams, and diagnosing health and developmental problems. Manages therapeutic regimens for patients with both acute and chronic diseases according to approved guidelines. Manages medical emergencies. Triages patient transport calls and provides consultation. Performs clinical procedures and demonstrates competence in clinical skills. Performs invasive procedures, including ABG, arterial line, central venous catheter/PICC line placement and intubation assistance. Makes independent clinical decisions when required. Demonstrates excellent communication skills and works collaboratively with medical and surgical colleagues, staff and trainees. Participates in professional development activities and maintaining professional affiliations. Teaches medical students and resident physicians. In this role, NP will have the support of the Pediatric Intensive Care physician while caring for patients in the PICU. Performs other duties as described by the department chair.
