About The Position

Under supervision of a physician, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivering care to patients primarily in our inpatient newborn nursery setting. The position will be part of a newborn nursery and pediatric hospitalist team that will cover the Memorial Health Systems Gulfport location. The NP will be responsible for but not limited to initial stabilization and resuscitation as needed for newborns, daily rounding on the newborn nursery babies and serving as a liaison for our residents and pediatric attending physicians.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Certification NRP, BLS, PALS, STABLE, DEA
  • 3-5 years of relevant nursing experience
  • Fetal and neonatal physiology and pathophysiology
  • Health assessment and diagnostics
  • Pharmacology
  • Treatment plan development and management
  • Resuscitation and stabilization
  • Health promotion and disease prevention
  • Clinical skills - performing physical exams, diagnosing conditions, managing acute and chronic illnesses, and performing resuscitation
  • Professional and Leadership skills - communication, collaboration, and evidence-based practice
  • System Level Skills - Quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and patient and family education
  • Provide safe, high-quality, family-centered care to healthy and ill neonates

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of experience in NICU and Pediatrics

Responsibilities

  • Perform stabilization and resuscitation of newborn infants
  • Perform assessment, by obtaining patient medical and social histories, and by performing examination, and diagnostic testing
  • Evaluate signs and symptoms of patients
  • Interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests and laboratory results
  • Initiate treatment and manage patient treatment plans for acute and chronic illnesses
  • Initiate treatment of sick newborns
  • Monitor and review patient care and treatment plans
  • Provide clinical support of personnel
  • Promote health education and wellness
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as needed
  • Participate in quality assurance activities
  • Refer patients to physicians or other healthcare providers and facilities as needed
  • Consult and collaborate with other professionals as needed
