About The Position

Veterans Engineering is on the lookout for a dedicated Nurse Practitioner specializing in Pediatrics to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive care to children from infancy through adolescence, addressing a wide range of health issues and fostering a holistic approach to pediatric healthcare. Collaborating with pediatricians and other healthcare professionals, you will conduct assessments, develop and implement care plans, and provide health education to children and their families. Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program.
  • 2+ years of experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of pediatric growth, development, and common illnesses.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive physical assessments, diagnose conditions, and develop treatment plans. Skilled in ordering, interpreting, and following up on lab tests and diagnostic studies.
  • Ability to prescribe medications and vaccines in compliance with state and federal regulations. Understanding of pediatric dosing, side effects, and medication interactions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for explaining diagnoses, treatments, and preventative care to patients and families. Experience counseling families on nutrition, safety, and health maintenance.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Ability to coordinate referrals and follow-up care with specialists.
  • Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) documentation and reporting.
  • Accurate clinical documentation for compliance, quality assurance, and patient continuity.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to acute pediatric emergencies.
  • Knowledge of basic life support (BLS) and advanced pediatric life support (PALS/ACLS as required).
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, VA policies, and federal/state healthcare regulations.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient safety, confidentiality, and quality of care.
  • Due to federal contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this position.
  • This position supports a federal government contract and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability Determination, depending on the agency’s background investigation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive health assessments of pediatric patients (infants through adolescents).
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, lab results, and imaging studies.
  • Identify acute and chronic conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medications, immunizations, and other therapeutic interventions in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Manage common pediatric illnesses, chronic conditions, and minor injuries.
  • Provide preventative care, including well-child exams and developmental screenings.
  • Educate patients and families on health maintenance, disease prevention, nutrition, and growth/development milestones.
  • Counsel families on medication administration, safety, and follow-up care.
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to coordinate care.
  • Refer patients to specialists or community resources as appropriate.
  • Document and maintain accurate patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and VA clinical policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of pediatric best practices and continuing education requirements.
  • Provide care within the unique operational environment of a military facility.
  • Support readiness initiatives, including immunization tracking and medical readiness reporting.
  • Collaborate with military medical teams to ensure comprehensive care for active-duty personnel and their families.
