About The Position

At Stony Brook Medicine the Physician Recruiter leads the recruitment efforts of physicians in a complex, high-volume academic medical environment. This role is critical to supporting clinical and academic operations. Will serve as a key liaison between department leadership, medical staff, and administrative stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of clinical recruitment experience, with at least 3 years Physician recruitment experience in support of a hospital, academic medical center or a physician practice system.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex searches simultaneously across subspecialties.
  • Strong understanding of academic appointment structures, clinical faculty recruitment, and medical staff processes.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working within applicant tracking systems (Taleo, iCIMS, etc.) and physician databases.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree
  • Knowledge of medical staff bylaws, credentialing standards, and GME structures.
  • Familiarity with immigration sponsorship processes for clinical roles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead recruitment efforts for select physician and faculty positions across multiple service lines, including outreach, sourcing, screening, interview coordination, offer negotiation, and onboarding.
  • Partner with Chairs, Chiefs, and senior leadership to define recruitment strategies aligned with institutional goals and service line growth.
  • Develop and maintain strong pipelines of qualified candidates through direct sourcing, networking, conferences, and digital platforms.
  • Manage sensitive searches with urgency, discretion, and a deep understanding of specialty-specific requirements.
  • Analyze market trends, and recruitment data to inform sourcing strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with credentialing, J-1/H-1B immigration, EEO, and institutional guidelines.
  • Represent the institution at national conferences, academic forums, and networking events.
