About The Position

The Physician Extender provides competent and professional medical care to the residents of Caswell Developmental Center (CDC) including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care, and health maintenance. The Physician Extender, as appropriate, provides acute medical care and follow-up to employees for work-related injuries. The Physician Extender is to practice evidence-based medicine and deliver such care in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. The Physician Extender is a member of the CDC team and is expected to be familiar with the philosophy, goals and objectives of CDC and will work collaboratively to achieve them. The Physician Extender must be cognizant of, and assure compliance with, professional standards, Center policies and procedures, Federal and State Laws and Regulations, and ICF/IDD Regulations. The Physician Extender will be provided with a smart phone and/or other electronic devices to aid the performance of their duties.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board.
  • Must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities in medicine to meet standards set by medical physicians practicing in the community according to AMA guidelines.
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of general, preventative, and applicable medical specialty and of the techniques involved.
  • Must possess ability to assess situations, in a timely manner, and prioritize needs based upon patient requirements.
  • Must possess excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must successfully pass CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years private practice, consultation or hospital experience is desirable.
  • Prefer experience in a setting serving people with intellectual disabilities is highly desirable.
