The Coding & Documentation Educator serves as an internal resource to clinicians, providing training, consultation, audit, and coordinated feedback on their medical service documentation and coding. This role ensures that Mayo Clinic receives appropriate reimbursement and conforms to applicable guidelines and regulations. The position involves performing medical record audits to ensure compliance with all applicable coding regulations, as well as organizational standards, practices, policies, and procedures. It is designed to offer direct coding and documentation support through various methods, including ad hoc phone calls, site visits, the creation of specialty or individual provider tip sheets, and both virtual and on-site presentations. The educator acts as a subject matter expert with specialty-specific knowledge of surgical, E&M, and diagnosis coding & documentation. Key responsibilities include analyzing data, communicating findings, and facilitating improvement efforts. The educator is also responsible for independently developing and maintaining educational materials and training programs, working in conjunction with clinical practice managers and production coding leadership teams. While the position has potential for remote work as directed by the manager, it may require on-site work to interact with physicians.
