Marshfield Medical Center – Weston is seeking a Cardiology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in Wausau/Weston, Wisconsin. The NP or PA is a skilled member of the allied health care team who is qualified both academically and clinically to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients under the supervision of a licensed physician. The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner works within a cooperative unit, utilizing team effort with health care providers, co-workers, and the public to provide positive patient interaction. In this role, you will provide hospital support and rounding, ordering tests, and conducts pre-op and post-op care. The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides advanced nursing care to patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions. This includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care in collaboration with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team. The NP promotes patient education and disease prevention.

Requirements

  • Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. If Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
  • State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
  • National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC).
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
  • Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in cardiology or acute care preferred.
  • Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP) certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive cardiovascular assessments including histories, physical exams, and interpretation of diagnostic tests (e.g., EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests).
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with cardiologists.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state licensure and hospital policy.
  • Manage patients with heart failure, arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, and other cardiovascular conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
  • Provide patient education regarding disease processes, medications, lifestyle modifications, and risk factor reduction.
  • Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals and services.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • This position also provides on-call coverage outside of regularly scheduled hours.
