About The Position

As a Physician Assistant, your superior interpersonal and empathetic skills, as well as your comprehension of diagnostic procedures greatly assists you in providing medical services to patients. STATUS: Full Time LOCATION: Rochester General Hospital DEPARTMENT: Surgical Pre-Testing SCHEDULE: Days, Monday-Friday ATTRIBUTES Particular clinical experience with surgical care is preferred. Interest or experience in geriatric patient care is preferred. Excellent communication skills involving written, spoken and presentation abilities. Independent worker accustomed to clear accountability and reporting. High degree of emotional maturity that enables successful interfaces with adverse constituency and that facilities group problem solving Adequate Microsoft Excel skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Satisfaction. Consults with patient’s primary care provider and surgeon’s office if necessary. Responsible for calling patients after the multidisciplinary meeting to discuss any expectations of care or interventions recommended during their inpatient stay; performs other patient navigation functions when appropriate.
  • Completes urgent geriatric consultations on high-risk surgical patients who have presented urgently in the hospital, including, but not limited to: a chart review, cognitive evaluation, and other testing as appropriate.
  • Medication & Orders. Conducts geriatric evaluations of high-risk geriatric patients prior to surgery, including, but not limited to: medication reconciliation, cognitive evaluation, evaluation of delirium risk, and determination of anticholinergic burden.
  • Documentation. Prepares for multidisciplinary committee meeting, including compilation and dissemination of the list of patients to be reviewed at meeting, preparation of relevant patient information prior to the meeting, and presentation of patient information at the meeting
