Job Summary The Physical Therapist staff has the responsibility to evaluate, establish a plan of care, and treat patients referred to PM&R. Job Specific Responsibilities Daily assignments may include but are not limited to: • Demonstrate proficiency in the performance of evaluation and treatment techniques/skills and therapy procedures appropriate to the age of the patient and within medical limits of the patient while taking into consideration any special precautions/contraindications the patient may have. • Complete proper documentation and billing necessary for Physical Therapy. • Participate in clinical education by functioning as a CI for PT/PTA students. • May be assigned to other specialty areas in PM&R department and expectation is that therapist will be competent in all assigned areas. • All other duties and/or assigned responsibilities. Education and Experience • Doctorate degree from an accredited physical therapist program. If PT license was received prior to 2015, prior educational requirements/criteria will be considered. Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations • Must have or be eligible to obtain a Texas State license. Skills and Abilities • Must be able to apply the theory of Physical Therapy under the bylaws of the Texas State Practice Act and the APTA Code of Ethics. • Ability to perform technical procedures. • Ability to instill confidence in patients, physicians, and other staff members. Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships This position will have close interactions with many people including but not limited to physicians, nurses, patients, professional staff and support personnel. The therapist should have the flexibility to schedule around the afore-mentioned services if needed and have the ability to organize time in order to treat the maximum number of patients in the allotted working day. The therapist should also offer help to co-workers in the event of conflicts/cancellation in their patient load. Physical Capabilities Position requires walking and standing most of the shift. Work frequently requires much walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, balancing, bending, carrying, talking, and hearing. Lifting more than 50 pounds is frequently required. The degree to which any of these is done depends on techniques being used. Hearing and visual activity and clear speech patterns are necessary. Indoor work equipment includes but are not limited to medical DME, gym equipment, and audiovisual equipment. Environmental/Working Conditions This position is mostly subject to inside conditions which includes varying indoor temperatures. May be exposed to communicable diseases. May come in contact with irritating chemicals or sprays. May be exposed to muscular strain in supporting, lifting, and assisting patients. Hours may be long and irregular and may include weekends/holidays.
