This role involves collecting, labeling, and transporting patient specimens for testing, including routine and advanced venipuncture, while adhering to strict patient identification protocols and medical guidelines. The Phlebotomy Tech is responsible for processing emergency orders, accurately labeling specimens, and operating departmental computer programs for order management and troubleshooting. They also maintain supply stock, perform equipment maintenance, and resolve issues related to specimen registration, collection, or processing. The position requires upholding organizational values, demonstrating exemplary customer service, and practicing universal precautions and infection control. Depending on the setting (Clinic or Hospital), additional duties may include reviewing test requisitions, providing patient instructions, maintaining standing order files, preparing and triaging specimens, obtaining Medicare waivers, utilizing computerized WOW carts, adhering to patient isolation procedures, and interacting with clinical staff. The role also involves assisting in training, participating in quality improvement, and engaging in professional development.
