About The Position

Phlebotomist – Cary Medical Center Cary Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for a Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory team! The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting biological specimens for laboratory testing and assisting laboratory technologists with sample processing. Requirements

  • No license required - on the job training
  • Obtainment of Phlebotomy Certification required within the first 6 months of employment.
  • CPR and basic first aid recommended
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED preferred.
  • Schedule: With consideration to our patients’ and staff needs, you may need to work on days, evenings, nights, weekends and/or holidays and may need to float to other units.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently obtains optimal quality specimens from inpatients and outpatients.
  • Responds promptly to computer orders and telephone requests.
  • Explains the procedure to the patient and answers questions appropriately.
  • Orders the correct tests as indicated on the Medical Provider’s requisition.
  • Responds promptly to STAT and URGENT requests.
  • Completes draw with one needle stick to obtain sufficient quantity of specimen greater than 95% of the time.
  • Collects specimens other than blood samples, such as nasal and nasopharyngeal swabs, for testing.
