About The Position

Dispenses and delivers medications accurately and timely. Demonstrates competence in department automated dispensing and storage devices. Trouble shoots dispensing issues. Generates and evaluates reports and troubleshoots complex distribution needs including inventory management and department workflows. Identifies, designs and assists in implementing process changes to improve the department and quality and safety of the patient experience. Prepares non-sterile and sterile products accurately, timely, and consistent with USP standards. Accurately enters medication orders in the computer system and/or effectively navigates within the electronic medical record to facilitate patient care. Addresses customer and team members concerns accurately and timely. Triages phone calls from customers such as nurses, physicians, or patients. This includes accurately understanding and interpreting the issue, timely resolution, or timely hand-off to another team member as appropriate. Participates in development and implementation of training programs/materials. Trains and educates pharmacy technicians, students, interns, residents, nurses or other healthcare providers on medication-related processes. Provides feedback to continuously improve the training experience. Serves as a resource person, role model and source of expertise for technicians, new team members, nurses, physicians and other health care professionals regarding pharmacy services. Actively supports and participates in departmental initiatives, including performance improvement activities, department committees, and/or shared governance activities. Embraces new opportunities, ideas and changes and encourage others to do the same to meet changing business requirements and standards of practice in the health care environment. Complies with legal, regulatory, accreditation standards. This includes (but is not limited to) controlled substance procedures, USP procedures and DNV requirements.

Requirements

  • Licensure (IL only): Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Student
  • Certification (CPhT) issued by PTCB or ExCPT
  • State of Wisconsin (registration)
  • Patient facing teammates may be required to have three certifications: Immunization, BLS through an entity approved by Advocate Health and non-vaccine injectable to be granted from the state of WI or if from out of state, the program is approved by the accreditation council for pharmacy education (ACPE) or by the WI pharmacy examining board.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy tech position.
  • Good mathematics skills.
  • Attention to details.
  • Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job
  • Frequent fine motor motion of hands and wrists to operate keyboard and manipulate syringes
  • Lifts, carriers, and/or pushes/pulls various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique
  • Will be frequently required to lift to 35 lbs., lift and carry up to 35 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance, push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, kneel, climb, twist, crawl and reach above shoulders
  • Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing
  • May be exposed to chemical hazards
  • May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
