About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Director/Pharmacy, Supervisor/Pharmacy, or a Pharmacist, performs a variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide unit dose drug distribution system. Responsible for maintaining confidential reports, entering and retrieving data utilizing the computer system, filling automated medication dispensing systems with a supply of unit dose medications, procuring and filling requests for pharmaceutical supplies, delivering supplies to patient care areas, and managing pharmacy automation. Engages in specialized departmental activities (e.g., documenting medication histories, maintaining pharmacy inventory, sterile compounding, and performing decentralized pharmacy services). Direct Supervision. A pharmacist gives specific instructions on all assignments. A pharmacist reviews the technician’s work for completeness and accuracy, or the technician performs tasks with inherent checks built into the nature of the work. Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and successful completion of a Florida Board of Pharmacy (FLBOP) approved pharmacy technician training program and at least 18 years of age.
  • Two(2) years of pharmacy experience.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • FLBOP registration in accordance with Florida Statutes, Title XXXII (Regulations of Professions and Occupations), Chapter 465 (Pharmacy), Section 014 (Pharmacy Technician).
  • Must train fully in sterile compounding AND chemotherapy, automation (i.e., Pyxis technology and narcotics technology), or decentralized pharmacy technology to advance to Pharmacy Technician IV/Cert (JC: 072705)
